The Amazing Marie Tharp

In this episode, Ray talks with author Hali Felt, author of "Soundings," the definitive biography of the enigmatic cartographer Marie Tharp, who quietly revolutionized the way we view the planet.

The band also compiles a Marie Tharp/Bruce Heezen playlist. They pick songs with "Marie" or "Bruce" in the title, as well as tunes about complicated relationships. Marie and Bruce worked together for almost their entire career, and while Bruce initially dismissed Marie's idea of a rift valley at the bottom of the ocean as "girl talk," he eventually came to see that she was correct and the two continued their collaboration (both in and out of the lab, wink wink) until Bruce died unexpectedly at age 53.

This episode also features the next installment of our scientific sci-fi musical radio adventure "The Amoeba People Audio Cartoon!" In this exciting chapter, the Meebs travel 27 light years from their home planet Crouton to planet Earth in their spacecraft The Improbable. But an unexpected collision with Voyager 2 sends them crashing toward Earth, bound for strange, foreign terrain known as Hawthorne, California.
